Snapd

Snapd is our own app for Android, iPhone and the web. Photograph a letter, poster, rota or appointment card and it reads the dates and adds them to your calendar, so all you have to do is check them.

The Snapd website: Snap it. It's in the diary, beside a phone showing a date found on an appointment card

The challenge

Family life still arrives on paper. School letters, party invitations, sports rotas and appointment cards all carry dates that need to end up in a calendar, and typing them in by hand is the step that gets skipped.

The hard part isn't reading text from a photo. It's getting the dates right when the letter itself is vague: "Monday 14th" with no month, or "morning" instead of a time. A calendar app that quietly guesses is worse than no app at all.

The solution

Snapd turns a photo into calendar events in three steps: snap it, check it, and it's in the diary. There are four ways in (the camera, photos already on your phone, your voice or plain text), and dates, times, places and repeats are picked out automatically, with a reminder set for you.

Most importantly, when Snapd isn't sure, it says so. A missing time or an unclear date is flagged and waits for you to confirm it, so nothing slips into the calendar unchecked.

One diary can be shared by the whole household, there's a month view made for bigger screens, and events land in the calendars people already use. Snapd runs on Android, iPhone and the web, with a free plan to get started.
